Educational Therapy Program

The Learning Advantage's individualized educational therapy program for Elementary, Junior High and High School students helps "differently-abled" students build the skills and understanding they need to succeed in their academics.

Poor grades... repeated disappointment...failure...frustrations. These experiences can take a terrible toll on a child's self-confidence and self-respect.

Learning problems generally first manifest themselves in elementary school. Common symptoms include:

• Poor reading skills
• Poor concentration
• Inattentiveness to details
• Sloppiness
• Difficulty remembering instructions
• Difficulty working independently
• Poor spelling
• Incomplete Projects
• Letter or number reversals
• Difficulty keeping up with class
• Hyperactivity

If not properly remediated in elementary school, learning deficits will generally persist into high school. Although a child may no longer be hyperactive, or reverse letters, he are she may still have reading, math, study skills, or concentration problems. Such problems can create serious obstacles to the mastery of high school level academic material.

We have worked with students with Learning Delays, Asperger's Difference, Dyslexia, Dyscalcula, Attention Deficit Hyper-Activity Disorder (A. D. H. D.), Operant Defiant Disorder, and other learning issues. We are confident that we can meet your child's special needs.

The Educational TherapyProgram

The program not only remediates the symptoms of your child's learning problem(s) (for example, poor reading comprehension), it also treats the source of the problem (for example, distractibility and disorganization). Specialized teaching methods are used to help the student learn to concentrate and to remember what is heard and seen. These skills are requisites to good grades.

The prodcedure at The Learning Advantage is as follows:

1. Identify each student's specific learning weaknesses
2. Design an individualized remediation strategy to correct the weaknesses

The range of remediation options available includes subject-based tutoring through basic skills development. Specialized training in the areas of concentration, memory, and organization are provided as a part of the program.

The Diagnostic Procedure

Each prospective student is administered a private diagnostic evaluation. This evaluation will pinpoint your child's specific learning deficiencies. The results of the evaluation will be correlated with information that your child's teachers will provide. These tests will indicate your child's level of achievement in each academic subject area and will permit us to develop an individualized, prescriptive teaching strategy. (This requirement can be waived if your child has been recently tested at school or by another agency).

Our Director, Judy Carter, M.S. Ed. is a highly qualified educational diagnostician and a classroom veteran who worked for the local school district as a Resource Specialist before creating The Learning Advantage. She has also taught at the university level, teaching other teachers strategies to help them in the classroom. She has personally tested over 10,000 students and has designed over 10,000 customized learning programs. She can create one for your child too!
